The frequency of psychiatric follow-up appointments depends on your individual treatment plan, symptoms, medication needs, clinical progress, and the recommendations of your provider.
Some patients may require more frequent appointments when beginning treatment, starting or changing medication, or experiencing symptoms that need closer monitoring. As treatment becomes more established, the appropriate follow-up schedule may change based on how you are responding.
Follow-up visits provide an opportunity to discuss changes in symptoms, medication effectiveness, possible side effects, new concerns, and whether adjustments to the treatment plan may be appropriate. They are an important part of continuing psychiatric care rather than simply a requirement for receiving medication.
There isn’t one follow-up schedule that’s appropriate for every patient. Your provider will discuss when you should return based on your individual needs and treatment plan.
